NY Fashion Week: Bold S/S ’23 by Leonardo 5th Avenue

NY Fashion Week: Bold S/S ’23 by Leonardo 5th Avenue

When I first met Leonardo Cordero he was creating his luxurious line of  Made to Measure as ready-to-wear while adding a Rock n Roll vibe to his new collection, at that moment not only was I mesmerized but I also became a fan of the label. Fast-forward 6 years to today, when we’re living in a social media -obsessed world where people are trying to stay up to date with whats trending. we often find ourselves looking for whats new and fresh, Ana Sofia Cordero (Leonardo’s daughter) has Joined the L5A team as Fashion director bringing a youthful & modern take to the label.

The designers have finally arrived Home! A bit of Cordero’s family history; Ernesto Cordero, broke ground in the fashion industry by opening Fifth Avenue Art Studio in New York City after WWII in 1946. A Navy veteran seeking to reinvent himself, he opened a shop where he combined his two passions- menswear and photography. In 1954, Ernesto moved to Puerto Rico and continued his business in San Juan. Two decades later, his son Leonardo Cordero Ortiz, continued his father’s legacy and transformed the store into a specialty menswear store, leaving photography behind, and focusing on becoming the largest menswear and formal-wear operator in the Caribbean under the new Leonardo Fifth Avenue label.

This was a collection infused with colors and shapes that wouldn’t normally fit the traditional norm of tailoring by incorporating sleeveless coats, long trains, collarless blazers, over skirts, among other non-traditional elements while maintaining the brand’s elegance and formal essence.

Bold” which is the name of their Spring / Summer ‘23 Collection was inspired by a modern artistic society that projects a feeling of optimism and hopefulness towards the future while living a moment in time with political and environmental uncertainties. The opening tailored look included a two-toned short suit with an over skirt flap on the pants accessorized with chains. The look also featured a custom fabric print for the collection with the L5A printed on it.

Disrupting the formality of the collection, in a good way, BOLD SS23 brings a visually tactile appeal to functionality, unique prints, colors, and styles. Pairing bold colors with lighter tones and prints for a sense of playful summer. Several of the details highlighted through this collection in addition to the vibrant colors, patterns, and styles were the accessories. Incorporating wide cummerbunds, bags, glasses with chains, and jewelry.
